"The measure of a society can be how well its people treat its animals."
-Mohandas Gandhi

A.A.R.C. stands for Animal Adoption and Rescue Center. Like the ark of biblical times, it provides shelter and care for animals in need.
To assure the public of a clean and professional atmosphere, the A.A.R.C. is inspected and certified by the State, two or three times each year. Our Facility is licensed to house up to 88 animals.
Homeless animals are received and placed into quarantine for 10 days where they are evaluated medically and psychologically. They are also given their age appropriate vaccines. All are treated for parasites and checked for other infections and diseases common to their species. All dogs are checked for heartworms and cats for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. As long as they are healthy and adoptable, the animals have a place in the A.A.R.C. Only animals that are incurably sick, vicious, or otherwise not suitable for adoption are euthanized.
In order to reduce the pet overpopulation problem, all animals are spayed and neutered by the Society before they are available for adoption. The Society does offer to the public free transportation to and from the spay/neuter clinic, in Asheville, once a month for anyone who is interested.
The Society believes it has a responsibility to make sure we are adopting out animals to good homes. Potential pet owners are asked to complete a questionnaire on how they will care for the animal. Adoption fees include a spayed or neutered pet, with all its shots - including a rabies injection. The fee charged goes just part of they way to make up the Society's investment in each pet.
